How fast do you need?

If Internet sharing is the main goal of your Home Network any speed router will do.  The Internet to your home is no faster than 6Mb/s—any of the solutions described can do the job.

Text Box: Parts needed:
Router (typically $40-50)
LAN cables—one per computer and one between the Router and the Internet Modem
Each computer needs a Network Interface Card (most have them already)
Simple installation; wireless set-up requires security set-up to restrict access to your network from neighbours.
Router connects to all computers through LAN cables and to laptops wirelessly
Text Box: Share Internet access, printers and files
Wireless speeds range from 11Mb/s up to 248Mb/s, but the current standard is 54Mb/s (called the wireless G standard).
Wired speeds range from 10Mb/s to 1Gb/s, with 100Mb/s being most common.
Wireless connections are affected by interference from hands-free phones (2.4GHz) and solid obstacles in your home
Need to configure wireless security measures in the router to protect the network.
